Bamboo Ply (Furniture grade panels)

At last a natural and renewable resource that is as beautiful as it is functional.  Our bamboo ply offers Australia an opportunity to turn away from the destruction of our native forests towards managed commercial plantations that can be selectively harvested annually without the destruction of the grove or stand. Tree plantations obviously have to be chopped down and their nutrient arrest terminated at harvest. Bamboo keeps on keeping on, with edible shoots capable of extraction after less than five years.

Renewable and Sustainable

Unlike traditional hardwood, bamboo can be selectively harvested every year without destroying the plantation, the bamboo stems will sprout new shoots in the next rain season and it takes only 4 to 6 years for the bamboo to grow to its full maturity while it takes scores or even hundreds of years for that of a tree.

The Fastest Growing Woody Plant on Earth

Bamboo is technically a grass, not a tree, it is the fastest growing woody plant on earth,  It grows one third faster than the fastest growing tree.  Some species can grow up to 1 metre per day.  One can almost "watch it grow".  “One day it was ankle-high. The next day it was up to my hips. It’s amazing stuff.”

The Ideal Substitute for Traditional hardwood

Bamboo is one of the strongest building materials.  Bamboo's tensile strength is 28,000 per square inch versus 23,000 for steel. It is 25% harder than red oak and 12% harder than North American maple. In addition it has 50% less expansion or contraction than red oak.

Bamboo plywood is made of fine layers of bamboo strips laying in parallel order. The strips are kiln dried, sanded smooth and then laminated edge to edge to create a single-ply panel. These panels are then laminated again to each other to create a multi-ply bamboo plywood with formaldehyde free emission. The multi layers are cross-laminated and heat pressed together to provide stability and to prevent warping. 3-4 times more dimensionally stable then Oak.

This bamboo plywood can be cut and sanded using conventional woodworking equipment and offers excellent dimensional stability. The natural beauty of bamboo cabinetry adds a luxurious touch to your home while providing you with a clean, green alternative to other products.
